Support Adult Basic and Literacy Education Funding!!

Friends and fellow activists!

As you know, Senators are deliberating over the stimulus package. Please call your Senators and tell them to include funding for adult basic and literacy education. Adult education serves people who often fall through the cracks of our public school or who simply need to learn English and possibly did not receive a formal eduction in their home country. Adult basic and literacy programs also provide services to help students develop family literacy practices that will help their children be ready for and succeed in school in addition to classes that help students develop basic workforce skills so they can enter and remain on the job. Over 11 million people in the United States are not literate. We can do something to help people help themselves through adult basic and literacy education.

Please call your Senators and ask them to include funding for adult education in the Stimulus package. You can get their information from Congress.org.

If you are in PA, like me, then please make a phone call today to Senators Specter and Casey, or you can send comments through their websites.
